Kim Dracula gained widespread recognition in November 2020 after sharing a heavy metal rendition of Lady Gaga‘s “Paparazzi” on TikTok, followed by an official Spotify release on December 11, 2020. The track quickly became a viral sensation, generating six million YouTube views, thirteen million Spotify streams, and features in over 60,000 TikTok videos before the year concluded. This sudden breakout positioned Kim Dracula as Australia’s fourth most-followed musical act on TikTok for 2020, behind Sia, Iggy Azalea, and Mia Rodriguez. By January 2021, the cover climbed to number 4 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart, while propelling the artist to number 47 on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart and taking the track to number 31 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
By April 2021, Kim Dracula‘s heavy cover of “Paparazzi” had generated massive engagement across streaming and social platforms, accumulating 13.4 million views on TikTok, 33 million views on YouTube, and 55 million Spotify plays. This rapid growth established them as the second most-followed Australian creator on TikTok, trailing only Sia.
The musician’s momentum continued through 2022 with the release of singles “Make Me Famous” and “Drown,” both receiving critical praise from Rock Sound magazine—which lauded the latter as an eccentric yet captivating blend of genres. On July 14, 2023, Kim Dracula unveiled their full-length debut album, “A Gradual Decline in Morale”, a 20-track project incorporating four pre-released singles. Expanding into narrative projects, they subsequently performed the role of Luther on the 2024 concept album “Warriors”, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis.
