On February 8, Kid Rock headlined “The All-American Halftime Show.” Supported by Turning Point USA, the webcast performance was part of some politically charged counterprogramming to this year’s official halftime show at the “Super Bowl LX” in San Diego, California, as per theprp. Numerous conservatives, including members of the current U.S. administration, have expressed criticism of the hiring of Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, a multi-time diamond-certified performer, to headline that event at the big game. As a result, Turning Point USA created a more conservative “halftime” bill that featured Kid Rock as the main act along with Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. It was advertised as a celebration of “faith, family, and freedom.”
Kid Rock‘s performance included a shortened version of his popular 1999 single “Bawitdaba” and a cover of “‘Til You Can’t” by Cody Johnson. Rock‘s performance of the opening single seems to mainly rely on backing voice tracks, with very little genuine vocal involvement, for such a high-profile event. As a result of his alleged bold lip-syncing to the song, social media has already started to overflow with criticism and accusations. The official upload of his performance is here for you to judge for yourself.
