In a recent appearance on Reigning TV, Kerry King, the guitarist for Slayer, and Mark Osegueda, the singer of Death Angel, were asked which thrash metal band they preferred, Metallica or Megadeth. As reported by theprp, together with Slayer and Anthrax, the latter two bands are regarded as mainstays of the thrash metal scene. King provided some concise nuance to his Metallica preference, whilst Osegueda was ready to declare his support for the band.

I’m gonna be brutally honest. Metallica has a singer. Sorry Dave. – Kerry King

King and Osegueda, who both perform in King‘s own band, were also questioned in that same episode if they would rather play with Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine or Metallica frontman James Hetfield. King offered this, and both chose Hetfield.

James Hetfield. Sorry Dave, I know played in your band, but, I’m going with James. – Kerry King

In 1984, King did briefly join Megadeth, but their relationship did not work out. Although they have remained friends throughout the years, King has recently been known to speak less than nice things about Mustaine in the media. Given that Mustaine recently commended James Hetfield for his singing prowess, King‘s aforementioned jab at his former bandmate comes with a great deal of irony. While talking about Megadeth‘s impending version of “Ride The Lightning,” a Metallica song Mustaine co-wrote while he was a member of the band, Mustaine expressed his appreciation for Hetfield’s skills.

No one ever talks to me about that. One day he’s a singer, the next day he’s this fucking powerhouse and I’ve always respected him as a guitar player. So I wanted to do something to close the circle on my career right now, since it started off with Panic and several of the songs that ended up in the Metallica repertoire, I wanted to do something that I felt would be a good song. – Dave Mustaine
