Katatonia unveil haunting new single “Wind of no Change” ahead of Friday’s album release

Swedish metal veterans Katatonia have dropped a brand-new single titled “Wind of no Change”, taken from their upcoming album “Nightmares As Extensions Of The Waking State”. The full record is set for release this Friday, June 6th, 2025, via Napalm Records. You can check out the new track below or stream it on all major platforms.

Produced by frontman Jonas Renkse, the album was recorded by Lawrence Mackrory (known for his work with Decapitated and Usurpress) at NBS Audio and The City Of Glass studios. Mixing duties were handled by Adam Noble (Leprous, Placebo), with mastering by Robin Schmidt (The Hives, Biffy Clyro).

This new release showcases a lush, dynamic production — a careful balance between silence and intensity. Expect crushing riffs intertwined with delicate guitar melodies, all wrapped in atmospheric synths that build a rich, cinematic soundscape. Tracks like “Thrice” and “Warden” highlight the band’s stylistic range, while the Swedish-language piece “Efter Solen” brings a stripped-down, minimalist sensitivity to the mix.

Back in April, Katatonia revealed their updated lineup, which now includes founding vocalist Jonas Renkse, bassist Niklas Sandin, drummer Daniel Moilanen, and guitarists Nico Elgstrand and Sebastian Svalland.

In an interview last month with Chaoszine, guitarist Nico Elgstrand spoke about what might be the band’s most poetic album title to date, the Scorpions homage baked into one of the tracks, and how to write gloomy music when the sun is shining. You can watch the full chat here.
