From Stockholm, Sweden, melancholic prog metal outfit Katatonia has released a new single, “A World Without Heroes.” The track arrives via Napalm Records as a standalone digital cut, showcasing the band’s moody touch on a classic originally penned by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Lou Reed, and Bob Ezrin for KISS’s 1981 album “Music from ‘The Elder’.”
Because Katatonia leans into atmosphere and restraint, the song fits their modern era well. The band already hinted at this version earlier this year when “A World Without Heroes” appeared as a bonus cut on some editions of their latest album “Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State,” and the new single now gives it a dedicated spotlight. Therefore, fans who missed the bonus-track edition can finally hear the cover on its own.
Alongside the cover, the band also shared a new remix of their song “Wind of no Change,” reimagined by Swedish artist Karin Park. The remix adds a dark electronic edge to the track, deepening the haunting atmosphere of the band’s latest era. It complements the reflective tone of “A World Without Heroes” and gives listeners a fresh perspective on Katatonia’s evolving sound.
