Eye of Melian is an international symphonic music project that blurs the boundaries between film music, classical composition, and symphonic rock. The ensemble consists of seasoned musicians Martijn Westerholt (songwriter, producer, piano; known from Delain and ex-Within Temptation), Johanna Kurkela (vocals, violin; one of Finland’s most renowned artists), Mikko P. Mustonen (arranger, piano, guitar), and Robin La Joy (backing vocals, violin).

Eye of Melian distinguishes itself through a cinematic approach to symphonic music, placing orchestral soundscapes and narrative themes at its core. The group bridges the emotional intensity of film composers such as Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, and James Newton Howard with the poetic imagination of the fantasy realm. Their music is both grand and intimate — a symbiosis of orchestral grandeur, ethereal vocals, and compositional depth.

In 2025, Eye of Melian signed with the international label Napalm Records, marking a new chapter in the group’s artistic evolution. A new studio album will be released in February 2026, with a release concert at Hedon (Zwolle, Netherlands), followed by a theatre tour across Finland. The live presentation expands upon Eye of Melian’s musical universe — where image, sound, and atmosphere merge into a multi-layered stage experience. With this next step, Eye of Melian firmly positions itself within the international field of symphonic and film music, contributing to the artistic renewal of the Dutch music landscape at the crossroads of classical, pop, and visual theatre.
