Judas Priest to release “Sad Wings Of Destiny” remixed and remastered

Judas Priest’s landmark 1976 album “Sad Wings of Destiny” celebrates its 50th anniversary with a new Remixed & Remastered edition. Produced by longtime Judas Priest producer Tom Allom, the album has been newly remixed from the original 1976 analogue multi-track master tapes, bringing fresh clarity, depth, and separation to one of heavy metal’s most influential recordings. The project was meticulously restored at British Grove Studios in London, with the original multi-track reels transferred and preserved for the new mixes. The new edition restores the band’s original running order, beginning with “Prelude,” and features the bonus track “Diamonds & Rust.” The album has been half-speed mastered for a premium 45 RPM double-LP presentation and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl, delivering an audiophile-quality listening experience. This anticipated release continues the celebration of the 50th anniversary and offers fans a definitive new way to experience “Sad Wings of Destiny” while remaining faithful to Judas Priest’s original vision. 

Details have been revealed for the upcoming releases of both the “Original 1976 Masters” and the newly “Remixed & Remastered” editions. The “Original 1976 Masters” will be available on all major streaming platforms worldwide starting October 2, 2026. Physical editions on CD and vinyl are scheduled for a general release on October 9, with early access options offered directly through the Exciter Records webstore beginning October 2.

Concurrently, the “Remixed & Remastered” version will also hit global streaming platforms on October 2, 2026. Physical releases for the remastered edition will follow later in the autumn, arriving on CD and vinyl on November 27, with an exclusive early access window launching via the Exciter Records webstore on November 6.
