In 1969, Judas Priest was founded in Birmingham. They are widely regarded as one of the best metal bands of all time and have sold over 50 million albums. They have been credited as one of the founders of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) movement and as having had a significant impact on the hard rock and glam metal scene of the 1980s as well as a number of metal subgenres, such as speed metal, thrash metal, and power metal. The band suffered with poor record production and lacked significant commercial success until 1980, when their sixth studio album “British Steel” gained them widespread recognition, despite producing an inventive and groundbreaking body of work in the second half of the 1970s.
