Before leaving Journey after a tenure that began with the diamond-selling, U.S. chart-topping “Escape” album in 1981, Jonathan Cain is scheduled to participate in one last tour. As UCR reports, after years of disagreement, Cain and his longtime bandmate Neal Schon have acknowledged the lineup change. Schon, the only surviving co-founder of the group, said Journey will go on. Cain isn’t going anywhere right now, Schon later explained. An update was also given out this afternoon by Cain’s management. After Journey took an unusual year off from touring, Schon has already finalized preparations for a new round of gigs. In the meantime, Cain unveiled a music video for “No One Else,” a new tribute song to the late activist Charlie Kirk.

Jonathan Cain remains an active member of Journey, and any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. He is fully dedicated to touring with the band over the next couple of years and has only expressed plans to retire at a later time. Cain’s management

I’m coming with an EP at the end of the year. Then, of course, we go on the Journey tour in 2026 – on our farewell Journey tour. So, I’ll be saying goodbye to that. Jonathan Cain

Additionally, Cain contributed significantly to the songwriting for the six-time platinum-selling “Frontiers” in 1983, the two-million-selling “Raised on Radio” in 1986, and the platinum return “Trial by Fire” in 1996. “Freedom”, released in 2022, is their most recent album. Cain penned or co-wrote the majority of Journey‘s well-known songs along the way, including their hallmark song “Don’t Stop Believin” and the No. 2 hit “Open Arms.” More recently, however, his relationship with Schon became tense, and their disagreements frequently ended up in court. Who will finally take Cain’s place is unknown. Additionally, he promises to release more new music in the future.
