James LoMenzo indicates new Megadeth music remains a possibility
Author Benedetta Baldin - 6.3.2026
Bassist James LoMenzo claims that Megadeth‘s tale may not be completed, despite the band’s announcement that their 2026 self-titled album and worldwide farewell tour will signal the band’s demise, as per MetalInjection. In an interview with Loud And Proud Italy, LoMenzo clarified that although the band plans to use the current era as a fitting conclusion, the possibility of creating new songs in the future hasn’t been ruled out.
There’s no law that says we can’t make music as we’re making music. The great bands, the clasic bands that we love would go on the road, get a studio, record something, and eventually they’d have enough for half an album or so. That’s entirely possible.
The band hasn’t really talked about releasing new music beyond the farewell campaign, according to LoMenzo, but he stressed that nothing creatively or legally stops them from doing so. LoMenzo emphasized that the farewell tour and album are not intended as a marketing ploy, despite suggestions that new music may eventually be released. Dave Mustaine, the band’s frontman, was particularly committed to make the departure sincere, he said.
And Dave is adamant about this. We’re not doing this to cash in or cash out. We’re doing this to be sincere and to really bring the legacy to its closure. For that reason, calling the album Megadeth was the logical title. The culmination of the whole thing.
