It’s now official: there is a “Megadeth Day”!

Author Benedetta Baldin - 20.1.2026

January 17, 2026, was declared “Megadeth Day” by the City of La Vergne, Tennessee, in honor of the world-famous heavy metal group’s visit to the area at a special music event held nearby, as per Blabbermouth. A press release states that on Friday, January 16, La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole presented a proclamation to Megadeth at La Vergne City Hall. Cole concluded the proclamation by saying, “in celebration of the band’s extraordinary contributions to music, their lasting cultural impact, and their continued influence on artists and fans worldwide.” Vice Mayor Steve Noe and aldermen Carol Haas and Kara Hobbs were also present at the ceremony.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the band’s attendance at “Let There Be Shred: The Ultimate Megadeth Immersive Listening Event” in La Vergne. This unique one-day event is touted as an all-day celebration that gives fans a comprehensive look at the band’s music, tales, and heritage. On Saturday, January 17, the event took place in La Vergne at the studios where the band recorded their most recent album the previous year.

The band’s seventeenth and last studio album, Megadeth’s self-titled album, will be released on January 23 and will be accompanied by a worldwide farewell tour. Dave Mustaine, the creator and leader of Megadeth, has spent more than ten years residing in the Nashville region.
