It looks like William Shatner will perform at a heavy metal festival

Author Benedetta Baldin - 16.7.2026

This year’s “Riot Fest” will feature a live rock/heavy metal performance by William Shatner, as per theprp. Members of Nuclear Messiah will support the 95-year-old “Star Trek” veteran at his forthcoming performance at the annual Chicago, Illinois festival, which will take place at Douglass Park from September 18–20. In recent years, Shatner has been collaborating with a number of special guests on a future metal/rock record. He will collaborate with Judas Priest singer Rob Halford on a cover of the 1982 Judas Priest song “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’“; members of Nuclear Messiah, Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society/Ozzy Osbourne), Ritchie Blackmore (formerly Deep Purple), and Henry Rollins (formerly Black Flag) will also be featured on that upcoming record, which Cleopatra Records plans to oversee.

One of the most recent contributors to that record is drummer Mikkey Dee (Scorpions, Motörhead), who recorded a cover of “Living After Midnight,” another Judas Priest classic. Other guests are:

  • Dave Lombardo (ex-SlayerMr. Bungle, etc.)
  • Chris Adler (ex-Lamb Of God/Megadeth)
  • Vinny Appice (ex-Black Sabbath, etc.)
  • Carmine Appice (Vanilla FudgeCactus)
  • Kenny Aronoff (Steve Vai)
  • Simon Wright (ex-AC/DCUFO)
  • Bobby Rondinelli (Blue Öyster CultQuiet Riot)

“I’ve always believed that music, like space, is about exploration. ‘Riot Fest‘ is exactly the kind of place where anything can happen. We’re bringing volume, intensity, and a few surprises. With this incredible band behind me, I expect nothing less than lift-off. I can’t wait to share this experience with the fans.William Shatner

It is anticipated that covers of songs by Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and other artists will be featured on the record and likely on the set list for this live performance. Tool, Twenty One Pilots, and Pierce the Veil will be the main acts at this year’s “Riot Fest,” along with GWAR, Angine de Poitrine, Fleshwater, and numerous other acts.
