Veteran singer Van Morrison has been sued. Northern Ireland Health Minister Robin Swann sued Morrison for “irresponsible” attitude against COVID restrictions, and the singer has also said that Swann is “dangerous”.

At a concert last summer, Morrison tried to get his audience to chant “Swann is dangerous”. To this Swann has responded that Morrison’s comments were “bizarre and irresponsible”.

According to Swann, the libel case is currently proceeding in court, with hearings due to start in early 2022. Morrison himself has since described his comments as a joke. However, in an interview with the Sunday Life after his initial comments, Morrison had replied that he did not regret his words.

In the summer, Morrison uploaded a video to YouTube in which he opened up a little about his views and again claimed Swann was dangerous.

Swann defended his corona actions in Rolling Stone magazine in the autumn:

“His words will give great comfort to the conspiracy theorists – the tin foil hat brigade who crusade against masks and vaccines”, Swan said.
