James Bradley-fronted band Interphased has shared a new track entitled “Sons Of Bs“. Listen to the song below.
“Sons of Bs” is off the recently released concept LP “Obsessive Compulsive”. The LP is in general, a fusion of jazz/prog-rock/pop, and is available in both vinyl and CD. “Sons of Bs” is about people who are perfectionists to a fault, and how they affect those around them. The chorus is a bit comedic, but the subject is more serious.
James Bradley doesn’t owe you anything. He gave you this anyway. Most bands with a forty-year run would’ve called it after 2019.
Danny Brand died. Noel Avalos stepped away. The original trio that built Interphase out of a Baytown Texas garage was gone. Nobody would’ve blamed Bradley for closing the chapter. He didn’t.
“Sons of Bs” is the latest proof of that. A new track from a band running on one original member, a fresh lineup, and apparently no interest in going quietly.
Bradley’s drumming has always been the foundation. That hasn’t changed. What has changed is the approach on the new material. The jazz influence that started bleeding into “Obsessive Compulsive” is showing up here too. More groove. More breathing room than the older records. Still complex but it doesn’t wear the complexity like a badge anymore.
That’s growth. Forty years in, and the music is still moving somewhere.
The new lineup deserves credit, too. Nobody’s trying to sound like the 1989 Amsterdam lineup. Smart call. That version of the band belonged to three specific people. This version belongs to whoever showed up now and they seem to know it.
Lyrically, Interphase has always sat somewhere between reflective and critical. Thoughtful without being preachy. “Sons of Bs” fits that tradition. The kind of writing that trusts the listener to keep up.
Here’s the thing about this release. It’s not a comeback. Bradley never left. It’s not a tribute to Danny or a farewell to Noel. It’s just a band that absorbed real loss and kept making music anyway.
That’s the whole story. That’s enough.
