A big change took place in the ranks of Finnish metal giants Nightwish at the beginning of 2021, when the band’s longtime singer-bassist Marko Hietala announced that he was leaving the band. Hietala joined the band in 2002 and played on every album since “Century Child”.
The times before making the final decision to leave the band were difficult to Hietala as he was having a lot of problems with mental health and was very depressed.
Luckily for us metal / rock fans Hietala made a comeback to stages this summer in Finland to be part of the heavy metal super group Northern Kings as well as played a couple of solo shows with his solo band.
Chaoszine sat down with Marko Hietala before his solo show at his home town in Kuopio, Finland as part of Kuopiorock festival in July 29th and discussed about leaving Nightwish, living life in the pandemic time and what can we expect from him in the future when it comes to new music.
