Coming off the back of the well-received “Dead Reckoning“—named Track of the Week by 2FM’s Dan Hegarty and described by IMRO as “evoking the image of a body of water at its most threatening” — Galway-based (Ireland) post-punk outfit In Athens return with an unabashed celebration of the early-00s indie dancefloor, “Voltage Party“.
The Irish quartet states: “We wanted to push ourselves sideways with this one, to write something made for a packed dance floor in a small, sweaty venue. It’s a song we can really let loose on live, too. We couldn’t imagine anyone but Dan Doherty (Fontaines D.C., Hope Sandoval) producing it. He’s a master at capturing a sense of electricity in the studio.“

The track is due to be released on October 2 via Blowtorch Records. A physical release (7″ translucent red vinyl) alongside the band’s recent single “Dead Reckoning” was also set to release on October 2 but is currently sold out due to high pre-sale demand.
“Voltage Party” is an ode to the things that fire up our nervous systems. The group pushes the tempo harder than before, with wiry guitars, a grimy and motorik rhythm section, and a call-and-response chorus that’s built to be shouted back.
In Athens hail from the rugged meeting point of Connemara, Galway, Ireland, and the wild Atlantic. Their music is a powerful blend of fuzz-drenched post-gaze nostalgia and razor-sharp modern post-punk energy, creating an evocative soundscape that reflects the majestic beauty, raw power, and shimmering tranquillity of their surroundings.
