In connection with the passing of former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, two more men have been taken into custody on suspicion of conspiring to commit murder, as reported by theprp. While serving a 29-year prison term with a six-year extended license at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England, the disgraced musician was murdered on October 11. Watkins received that term following his 2013 conviction for a number of child-related sexual offenses. Two prisoners were taken into custody and accused of murder in the days following his passing. Samuel Dodsworth, age 43, and Rashid Gedel, age 25, were among them. Detectives investigating the murder of Ian Watkins at HMP Wakefield on Saturday 11 October have made two further arrests.
Two men aged 23 and 39 have been arrested from HMP Wakefield on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
They are both in police custody and will be interviewed over the course of today, they will then be bailed and returned to prison while enquiries continue.
Last week two men were charged with murder in relation to the incident, they are on remand awaiting trial.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: ‘Extensive enquiries remain ongoing in relation to the murder of Ian Watkins and these arrests form part of that. Ian Watkins’ family are being updated as the investigation progresses. However, we do not anticipate any immediate developments at this stage.’
According to The Sun, Watkins died after a fellow prisoner allegedly shanked him in the neck. Watkins was previously stabbed and abused while incarcerated in 2023 for suspected drug debts. Following Watkins’ initial arrest, Lostprophets disbanded, and his comrades were horrified to learn of the seriousness of his offenses. The gang asserted that they were unaware of his heinous actions beforehand.
