KISS‘s music video for “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” has officially surpassed one billion views on YouTube, as per Blabbermouth. The band shared this achievement via their social media channels. Last summer, Paul Stanley stated that “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” is the most significant KISS track in their history. Although the song was a major hit for the band 40 years ago, it received criticism from many longtime fans who were not fond of its disco influence.
This track first appeared on KISS’s 1979 album “Dynasty” and was launched as the main single from that album. It marked the band’s second gold single, selling over 1 million copies and peaking at No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard singles chart. Additionally, it became a Top 10 hit in Australia, climbing to No. 6 on the ARIA charts that same year. The song was particularly successful in Western Europe, where it reached the Top 20 in Sweden, cracked the Top 10 in Norway, and soared to No. 2 in France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, while hitting No. 1 in the Netherlands.
“I Was Made for Lovin’ You” is strongly influenced by the disco style that dominated the United States in the late 1970s. Legend has it that the band members clashed with their producers, who pressured them to adopt a more mainstream sound. The band countered by stating that profitable disco tracks could be created quickly by anyone. It is said that the demo of the song was finished within just a few hours after the wager. Although the story remains unverified, Paul Stanley, who collaborated with Desmond Child and Vini Poncia to write the song, revealed that his intention was to demonstrate how simple it could be to compose and produce a successful disco hit.
