Mika Jussila likely has the keenest ear in all of Finland. He must possess something special. For 41 years, he has worked at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki (the studio celebrated its 60th anniversary this week) as a mastering engineer, where he has mastered more than 6,000 albums over his four-decade career.
Jussila, who has worked across all musical genres, is one of the people responsible for the Finnvox sound and has overseen mastering for bands such as Nightwish, Stratovarius, Children of Bodom, Amorphis and many others.
From his workplace, the engineer spoke with Chaoszine about Finnvox’s 60th anniversary, his career of four decades working with music, the difference between mastering and mastering, and his work with Nighwtish, as well as many other topics.
