Finnish melodeath five-piece I Am Your God release their cover of “Are You Dead Yet?” today via Out Of Line Music, paying tribute to the legacy of Children Of Bodom on what would have been frontman Alexi Laiho’s birthday. The track marks the first single from Foregods, an upcoming EP of five songs honoring the forefathers of extreme metal.
Originally released by Children Of Bodom in 2005, “Are You Dead Yet?” is one of the most iconic tracks in Finnish melodeath history. I Am Your God bring the song into their own sonic world, channeling the driving riffs and melodic aggression that defined the original while reflecting the band’s current craft and power. The timing of the release is deliberate: a nod of respect to Alexi Laiho, who passed away in December 2020, on his April 8th birthday.
The cover marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band. “Foregods” will feature five tracks drawn from the most formative bands in I Am Your God‘s musical DNA, with each member contributing one choice to the tracklist. The EP honors the source material while presenting the songs at the full current intensity of the band’s sound.
“The idea for doing something like this started to cook up after we got an idea to include a cover song into our live shows from time to time, to create new surprise elements there. Since COB is a super influential band for the metal world, and ‘Are You Dead Yet?’ is one of their most iconic tracks, we ended up choosing that one. After planning it for a while, we got so hyped up about the idea of covering the song, that we wanted to take the whole thing to the next level and beyond.”
“Are You Dead Yet?” follows I Am Your God‘s acclaimed third album “Δ (Trinity)”, released in April 2025 via Out Of Line Music. The band will appear at Rockholm Festival this July, continuing to build their live presence after festival appearances at Tuska, Summer Breeze, and Dark River.
About I Am Your God
Founded in Rovaniemi, Finland in 2018, I Am Your God blend melodic death metal with modern metalcore energy and a distinctly Nordic edge. The quintet — Julius Vetämäjärvi (vocals), Matti Hietala (guitar), Joonas Erkkonen (guitar), Joonas Roivainen (bass), and Atte Autio (drums) — released their debut album “The Resurrection” via Out Of Line Music in 2020, followed by “SINister” in 2023 and “Δ (Trinity)” in 2025. Drawing comparisons to Children of Bodom, In Flames, and Soilwork, the band have established themselves as one of Finland’s most promising rising forces in extreme metal.
“Foregods” is coming soon via Out Of Line Music.
