Philadelphia-based instrumental post-rock outfit Hiroe has released their first single, “Tides”, from the upcoming debut album “Wield”, which lands on June 20, 2025 via Pelagic Records. Produced by Mario Quintero (best known from Spotlights), the album promises a rich sonic experience blending atmospheric textures with heavy dynamic shifts. Think Deftones‘ ethereal vibe colliding with the crushing depth of ISIS and Caspian.
During the recording sessions, the band saw a bit of a lineup shakeup. Jill Paslier transitioned from bass to guitar, and new members Brian Kong (guitar), Jon Seiler (bass), and Dan Sagherian (drums) stepped in, rounding out the group with a tighter and more refined edge.
The lead single “Tides”, clocking in at over seven minutes, offers a powerful glimpse into Hiroe‘s evolved sound. The band set out to craft a broader musical palette on this record, incorporating synths, piano, and a variety of effects – with producer Quintero playing a key role in shaping those details. From the dreamy guitar layers of “Tides” to the cinematic closer “I’ve Been Waiting For You All My Life”, the album promises a journey through contrasting soundscapes.
If you’ve been missing that sweet spot where depth, weight, and emotion collide in instrumental post-rock, keep a close eye on this one. “Wield” might just be one of the genre’s standout releases of the year.
