Hexvessel tune to occult frequencies for a residency inside Giger’s museum

From November 29 to December 5, Finland’s psychedelic occult rock band Hexvessel, will live inside the Museum HR Giger in Gruyères, composing, rehearsing, and at the end of the week performing a new work titled “Future Mythology”.

First night on December the 4th sold out. New date announced for December the 5th. Tickets on sale on September the 18th 19:00 CET.

Giger believed his images weren’t invention but channeling visions that existed before him and would remain after, an artist as a temporary passage for something permanent.

This commissioned residency piece by Hexvessel follows that belief through his life in nine movements: the skull his father gave him as a child, the literature and the occult that shaped him, the grief of Li Tobler, the cost of “Alien”, and the museum he built with his own hands to hold everything that came before and after it. Hexvessel has long been shaped directly by Giger’s work, and by the wider world he influenced. Now they will inhabit Giger’s world for a once in a lifetime, purpose written piece performed for two nights only in the museum Giger built.

Hexvessel will only answer to the artwork around them and the stone acoustic of St. Germain Castle itself, a collaborator as much as a space, filled with the life offering of one of the most prophetic visionaries of our age, HR Giger.

Mat McNerney from Hexvessel states: “Giger said he didn’t invent his art but channeled it. Our piece is about this current and vessel, which is where our name comes from. Everything that shaped him, I draw parallels with. None of it died, because he built a temple to hold it. That’s how art beats death. Giger created a temple so the currents would keep passing through forever. Our work will venerate his spirit.“

Loïc Baechler, Director of Museum HR Giger: “Giger considered his museum an extension of his own creative work — a place where his art meets visitors without filters. Music, too, was a lifelong passion of his. With this residency, we honour both the artist and the man.
Hexvessel felt like the ideal choice: a fitting convergence of two worlds, both exploring what lies behind the veil.“

His works function as thresholds onto realities that modern consciousness has trained itself not to see. Giger’s work is proof that imagination is a faculty not only of invention, but of discovery.“

Kathy Lenze, Art Historian/Booker: “Giger was not merely a participant in his cultural moment but a solitary witness to another — a cartographer of territories so clearly mapped they resist being called imaginary. His art doesn’t depict another world; it opens one, treating vision as thaumaturgy and knowledge at once.“

DETAILS

Two performances: December 4 & 5, evenings, each limited to an audience of 50. Each followed by an acoustic Hexvessel set.

The residency also runs three public workshops led by Mat McNerney. #1 A lyric writing course, #2 A course in ritual music production, and #3 A poetry reading, set in the space of the museum on the 5th of December.
