German heavy metal legends Grave Digger present “Legends Never Die”, the next single from their upcoming studio album “Faces of Pain”, set for release on January 15, 2027, via Reaper Entertainment.
Following its exclusive radio premiere on Germany’s ROCK ANTENNE last Sunday, Grave Digger have now unleashed the official music video – an elaborate animated production created in collaboration with the renowned RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.
The video was developed and produced by students from RMIT’s Bachelor of Design (Animation & Interactive Media) program. Directed by Aaron McLoughlin and brought to life by the RMIT AIM Studio Student Team 2026, the result is an impressive visual experience that combines Grave Digger‘s powerful heavy metal sound with an extraordinary world of animation.
What makes this production particularly remarkable is that the entire animated video was created without the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Every animation, character design and visual element was brought to life through the creativity, dedication and craftsmanship of the Australian production team.
Musically, “Legends Never Die” is a powerful heavy metal anthem, driven by striking guitar riffs, an infectious chorus and the unmistakably gritty voice of Chris Boltendahl. The track combines the band’s classic trademarks with the energy and passion that have defined Grave Digger for more than four decades.
Chris Boltendahl comments on “Legends Never Die”:
“After tackling a very serious subject from the past with our first single, ‘The Number’, while focusing on the hope for a better future, we’re now heading in a completely different direction with our second single, ‘Legends Never Die’.
With this song, we pay tribute to the good old 1980s – the era when the first and second waves of German True Metal conquered the world. Anyone who knows us knows that we don’t take ourselves too seriously. ‘Legends Never Die’ is a humorous homage to our own roots and to the entire scene.
Lyrically, we’re having quite a laugh at our own expense. We tell the story of a band that, due to its advanced age, has basically been put out to pasture. But through the intervention of strange, mysterious forces, the band suddenly regains its strength. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, it returns to rock the stages and shake up the scene once again.
Behind all the humor and tongue-in-cheek attitude, however, there’s also a deeper message that’s very close to our hearts: True legends are simply indestructible. Even when they’re no longer physically with us, their spirit, their songs and their legacy will live on forever in people’s hearts.
