GoFundMe campaign launched for journalist Dom Lawson following medical emergency

For renowned U.K. metal journalist Dom Lawson, who had a heart attack this past weekend at the Bloodstock Open Air festival, a GoFundMe campaign has been started. Lawson, a writer for BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Metal Hammer, Prog, The Guardian, and other publications, was brought to the hospital and is presently undergoing surgery. Dom’s friend Alex created a GoFundMe page to raise £6,600 (about $8,900) for Lawson since he is “forced to do lots of resting and recuperating for weeks, if not months,” which prevents him from taking on freelance work at this moment. On Wednesday, August 12, Lawson posted on social media about his heart attack.

I wouldn’t normally share private info, but I’m in hospital and very bored so forgive me the self-indulgence (and nipple).

Had a wonderful time at @bloodstockopenair as usual. Nevermore gave me all-over goosebumps. Castle Rat were epic. Shining made my brain spin. Celestial Sanctuary were godly and crushing. STP (not that one) were a revelation. Municipal Waste will *still* fuck you up. And so on.

Unfortunately, I had a heart attack on Sunday and was rushed to hospital. Managed to avoid dying, so that was a good start. Looks like I will be having some kind of surgery in the near future. Close shave but you won’t get rid of me that easily. Huge thanks to our brilliant NHS, and particularly the Welfare tent folk at Bloodstock who could not have been more fabulous. Charlotte and my kids have been beyond wonderful too. Big love to those who heard the news and reached out (especially Alan!). Life’s a funny old cunt, isn’t it? Also, heart attacks fucking hurt. Would not recommend.

In 1999, Lawson started working as a music journalist. Before switching to Metal Hammer and Prog magazines in 2007, he wrote for Kerrang! for seven years. Dom oversaw the magazine’s front section and helped shape some of the pieces that appeared in print each month while serving as editor-at-large at Metal Hammer from 2014 to 2016.
