When Glen Drover left Megadeth in 2008, he proposed three candidates, as per Loudwire. During a recent interview on Waste Some Time With Jason Green, Drover disclosed the names. Drover took presenter Jason Green through every stage of his musical career, including his tenure with Megadeth (2004–08) and his membership in King Diamond (1998–2001). The discussion eventually shifted to the days before he left in 2008. In January 2008, Megadeth simultaneously revealed the dates of the Gigantour’s North American tour and formally confirmed Drover’s departure from the group. The band even stated in a news release regarding the tour that Drover’s departure was “hinted at back in November.” In between tours, Drover informed the band that he wanted to depart, and he even recommended a replacement.

When I left, I recommended three guitar players, who were Jeff Loomis, Jeff Waters and Chris Broderick.

Additionally, he asserted that Waters (Annihilator) and Loomis (Nevermore) declined the chance to join Megadeth. Broderick, a former member of Jag Panzer and current member of In Flames, became the band’s new guitarist as a result. Drover was questioned about whether he believed that relations with the Megadeth camp ended amicably during the Waste Some Time episode.

I think for the most part. Dave was upset, but I think he also understood, as well, to a point.

He also shed a bit more light on his leaving Megadeth.

Some of it was personal beyond that, which I won’t talk about because it’s very personal, and that’s another situation where I had to step down because there was just a lot of stuff going on at one point, which I got through. At the time, it was kind of heavy and I had to leave.

Was this related to music?

It was a lot to do with my family and just personal issues I had.
