Gibson has launched a brand-new documentary series focusing on the life and career of Tony Iommi, the legendary guitarist of Black Sabbath. The first volume of the series, titled “Tony Iommi: The Godfather of Heavy Metal”, is now available via Gibson TV.
The documentary traces Iommi’s journey from the early days of Black Sabbath to his role in shaping the foundations of heavy metal itself. Moreover, the series highlights how his unmistakable riffs helped define an entirely new genre that would later influence countless artists worldwide.
In addition, the documentary features commentary from Iommi himself alongside insights from fellow musicians and close friends. Among the contributors are Slash, Zakk Wylde, Tom Morello, and Yungblud.
Alongside the release, Gibson shared a statement underlining Iommi’s impact on music history. According to the company, the sound that emerged from industrial Birmingham changed rock music forever and became more than just a style. Instead, it grew into a global culture built on rebellion, passion, and raw power.
As Gibson puts it, this first volume offers a deep dive into the origins of heavy metal and the man who helped create it. Therefore, the series sets out to document not only the music, but also the cultural legacy surrounding Black Sabbath’s groundbreaking work.
Meanwhile, Tony Iommi is not only looking back. His long-awaited third solo album is expected to arrive later this year, adding a new chapter to an already historic career.
