Ghost honours Queen at the Polar Music Prize ceremony

Author Benedetta Baldin - 28.5.2025

Ghost frontman Tobias Forge performed Queen‘s iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” for a star-studded audience at this year’s Polar Music Prize ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, in what must have been one of the most intimidating performances of recent memory. Along with current leader Adam Lambert, Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, as well as King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, watched Forge’s performance. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Forge first appears anxious and sounds a little wobbly, even when wearing a mask. The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, created in 1945, and Opeth guitarist Fredrik Åkesson, who is featured on Ghost‘s most recent “Skeletá” record, joined Forge onstage.

Queen is one of the two or three musicians in modern and classical music who get the Polar Music Prize each year, which is referred to as the music industry’s Nobel prize. Adam Lambert sang “Who Wants To Live Forever” and “Another One Bites The Dust“, and Erik Grönwall, a former member of Skid Row and current Michael Schenker singer, sang Queen‘s “Stone Cold Crazy” elsewhere during the ceremony. The Polar Music Prize was established in 1989 by Stig “Stikkan” Anderson, the former manager of ABBA. Past recipients include Paul McCartney, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin.
