Some enterprising fans of Ghost have found a unique way to monetize their concert experience, selling decorative banknote-style confetti from the band’s current Skeletour performances for substantial sums online.
The Swedish rock phenomenon began their tour supporting their new album “Skeletá” in Manchester last week. Since then, the commemorative paper “currency” showered on audiences during performances has become a hot commodity on auction sites. One particularly ambitious seller listed a single note—which has no actual monetary value—for an impressive £52.72 (approximately $70.52).
This practice of dropping themed banknotes isn’t new for Ghost, who have incorporated this element into their live shows since their 2015 “Meliora” tour cycle. Each new era of the band introduces fresh designs featuring different characters from the band’s theatrical universe.
The current Skeletour notes showcase “Frater Imperator” (the character previously known as Papa Emeritus IV during the “Prequelle” and “Impera” album cycles). Previous tour confetti has featured other characters from Ghost‘s mythology, including Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator, all of which have become sought-after collectibles among dedicated fans.
The highly anticipated “Skeletá” album will be released this Friday, April 25, via Loma Vista Recordings. The Skeletour continues throughout Europe with the following remaining dates:
