This week, Ghost‘s collection of platinum and gold records increased, as theprp reports. The Swedish occult rock group’s 2019 hit song “Mary On A Cross,” which went popular on TikTok a few years after it was released, still stands out above the rest of their discography. The song, which is a tribute to the band’s mythical past, recently achieved two multi-platinum status in the US. Meanwhile, “Dance Macabre,” the second single from the band’s fourth studio album, 2018’s “Prequelle,” has now joined the platinum club. On November 13, 2025, the RIAA awarded both of these certifications.
In the US, a platinum album or single is worth 1,000,000 copies, whereas a gold record is worth 500,000 copies. The certifications take into account digital streams and downloads in addition to traditional physical and digital sales, with 1500 on-demand audio and video streaming from a specific album qualifying as a unit and 10 permanent track downloads counting as a unit. A track-equivalent unit is also equivalent to 150 streams of a song.
The Swedish group Ghost is well-known for fusing arena rock, heavy metal, and costumed theatricality. The band, which was founded in Linköping in 2006, gained international prominence in 2010 with the release of their debut album, “Opus Eponymous”. “Infestissumam” (2013) and “Meliora” (2015), which peaked at number one in Sweden and number eight in the US, came next. The albums “Impera” in 2022 and “Prequelle” in 2018 came next. “Skeletá”, the band’s sixth studio album, debuted in 2025 and went on to become their first number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
With the exception of the lead vocalist, Ghost’s members are referred to as “Nameless Ghouls” because to their costumed on-stage presence. For earlier tours, the lead vocalist changed his stage name to “Papa Emeritus,” a character recognized for its “demonic anti-pope” imagery.
