To be quite honest with you, there is a historical period that I love more than others. While I am perfectly content to be living in the 21st century, I have never been more fascinated than the crusades, that happened between the 11th and the 12th century. But back to 2025, let’s enjoy a memory of this history with Sabaton‘s upcoming album “Legends”.
Templars were knights, and they were protecting pilgrims on their way to the Holy City of Jerusalem, and Sabaton are modern knights, protecting metalheads from disappointment. The quality of the production, mixing and mastering of this album is top notch, as a band of their caliber would have. This is just one of the amazing aspects of “Legends”.
Hannes Van Dahl’s work on “A Tiger Among Dragons” is simply sublime: this is a perfect example of how drums make or break a song. And of course, in this case, it makees a spectacular track! I’m still of the opinion that Joakim Brodén on vocals can do so much more, but his abilities are well put to use throughout the whole album. We have a good hint of that during “The Cycle of Songs“.
Chris Rörland and Thobbe Englund on guitars create interesting and layered melodies, and Pär Sundström on bass completes the rhythm section with power. “Legends” has a bigger symphonic approach than their previous work, at least in my opinion. But you will absolutely find no complaints on my end about this!
Most if not all the tracks are perfect for live setting, so be ready to sing along all the time (like “Maid of Steel“! They’re catchy, immediate and the listening experience is very smooth. A very solid effort from the Swedish band, that has once more demonstrated why they’re one of the biggest acts out there!
