A tantalizing audio preview for Geoff Tate‘s upcoming album “Operation: Mindcrime III” was released, as per UCR. A sample of the release is available below. For some time now, the former Queensryche singer has been hinting at the eagerly awaited last chapter. This week, he provided a more definitive update, stating that the first single, “Power,” will be published on Friday, March 20, and the LP is expected to appear on May 3. Queensryche released the first “Operation: Mindcrime” concept LP in 1988. The two albums, together with 1990’s “Empire” — and its songs, such as “Silent Lucidity” and “Jet City Woman,” contributed to the progressive band’s rise to prominence in hard rock and heavy metal.
On Hit Parader’s list of the 100 Greatest Metal Vocalists of All Time, Tate comes in at number fourteen. On That Metal Show’s choice of the top 5 hard rock vocalists of the 1980s, he came in at number two. He won the Vegas Rocks in 2012! “Voice in Progressive Heavy Metal” won the Magazine Music Award. On OC Weekly’s 2015 list of the Top 10 High-Pitched Metal Singers, he came in at number nine. He renamed his band “Operation: Mindcrime” in honor of the Queensryche album of the same name following his final tour as Queensryche.
Tate was born to American parents in Stuttgart, West Germany. New Orleans is home to his mother’s side of the family. His family moved to Tacoma, Washington, shortly after he was born. From a young age, Tate was interested in music. Symphonic compositions particularly piqued his interest. After graduating from high school in 1977, he enrolled at Tacoma Community College but left after just one year.
Tate was asked to sing with the cover band The Mob while he was still a member of the progressive band Babylon at a local rock event, who would go on to write unique music and become Queensryche.
