Swedish death/thrash newcomers For the Pyres have dropped a blistering new single, “Downfall” and also accompanied by a chilling music video. In the clip, frontman Oannes Hagby meets a particularly grim fate, getting buried alive by none other than the Grim Reaper himself.

The track delivers three relentless minutes of classic Swedish death metal fury, driven by Hagby’s searing vocals, Jesper Karvola’s punishing rhythm guitars, Martin Latvala’s thunderous drumming (and backing vocals), and Toni Siira’s scorching lead guitar work (plus more backing vocals).

But that’s just the beginning. For the Pyres is set to release their debut album, “At the Pyres of Sin,” on May 9th via Gruesome Records. Fans can grab it either on CD or digitally, ready to blast at maximum volume. The band took charge of the production themselves, teaming up with Vesa Kenttäkumpu — known for his work with Evocation and Lake of Tears — to handle mixing and mastering duties.

Guitarist Toni Siira couldn’t be more pumped about the release. He describes “At the Pyres of Sin” as the embodiment of everything that fuels them as musicians — an unquenchable fire born from a love of heavy music. The album dives deep into the darker corners of humanity and spirituality, exploring heavy themes like historical upheavals, religion, death, war, and plague.
