Metallica has no trouble packing stadiums, but when it came to the August 28th premiere of their new “Maximum Metallica” station on SiriusXM, the thrash metal kings kept things small. With circa 250 fans in attendance, the band played a 14-song set in an outside tent built up at The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York, for that kickoff event, as reported from theprp. There was a large guest list, but fans of the group and others had the opportunity to win entry to the concert. Sir Paul McCartney, actors Michael J. Fox and Sylvester Stallone, drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, radio host Howard Stern, and others were reportedly present for the performance. Below is some video from the concert, which included guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist/vocalist Robert Trujillo honoring Ozzy Osbourne with a “doodle” rendition of “Crazy Train.
