French indie rock band Flying Melons has recently shared a new single entitled “A.L”. Listen to the track below.

Released in December 2024, the Paris-based outfit’s first single is a love story penned in 2018. A handwritten letter discovered after a move rekindles memories of a passionate and toxic love, authored by a mysterious individual, A.L.

The song evokes a Parisian café atmosphere on a rainy afternoon: Strokes-inspired guitars, a wistful piano, and a voice that recalls Alex Turner, but with a French twist. The melodies are delightful to the ear, and the track is highly accessible, filled with nostalgic vibes and groovy basslines.

With captivating melodies, danceable bass lines, and heavy, intoxicating riffs, Flying Melons is a French band poised to conquer the European scene. The group’s journey began in 2021 with Luka on vocals and Émile on drums. The project truly gained momentum with the addition of Louis on guitar and Gabriel on bass.

On the next steps for 2025, singer and guitarist Luka Goyena comments: “We plan to release the single “Better Left Unsaid” in early February, followed by “Remember Me” in March, and finally the official album release in mid-April“. The group also intends to tour France and other nations.

The band’s influences are wide ranging, from the most obvious, 2000’s indie rock and garage rock, to traditional Brazilian pop music and 70’s heavy metal. If I had to name 3 artists, I’d say Interpol, Black Sabbath and Rita Lee“, Goyena says.

About the album, set to release on April 11, the message behind it is a culmination of the singles. It evokes a nostalgic vibe, reflecting on a beautiful past where the antagonist experienced love, joy, and happiness, and now questions whether he made the right decisions in his life: “But what’s the point of going back in time if you already lived what you had to live?“.

The LP features 11 songs; some are significantly heavier than others regarding riffs and solos, while others are melodic ballads, concluding with an acoustic track.

The frontman concludes: “The next steps for Flying Melons are to write as much as we can, record a new album this summer, and most importantly: play live. This drives us to improve our connection with the audience, and we can’t wait to start touring this summer in France. The dream would be to perform one day in South America, specifically Argentina or Brazil”.
