Flea, of Red Hot Chili Peppers, has announced a 10-date global tour, released the second single from his upcoming debut solo album, and provided the record’s cover art and complete track list, as per UCR.
The new song, “Traffic Lights,” is available to listen to below. Thom Yorke, the leader of Radiohead, sings on it. Early in December, the expansive “A Plea” was delivered.
Yorke and Flea were previously members of the band Atoms of Peace, which put out a studio album called “Amok” in 2013.
With assistance from contemporary jazz musicians like double bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Deantoni Parks, percussionist Mauro Refosco, flutist Rickey Washington, trombonist Vikram Devasthali, vocalist Chris Warren, guitarist Jeff Parker, and saxophonist/vocalist Josh Johnson, Flea plays bass, trumpet, and vocals in “Honora”, which debuts on March 27.
Flea, who dropped the trumpet as a teenager to play bass for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, had always wanted to pick up the instrument again and produce a record showcasing his abilities, according to the press statement announcing the album.
Regardless of where his skills or knowledge ended up, he made the decision to practice every day for two years before setting a record. Despite his fear that the gifted jazz musicians he hired for the project would view him as “a non-playing motherf—-er, charlatan, rock poseur,” he was embraced.
It turns out they were all the most genuinely supportive people, moving me deeply and daily with their generous spirits. Sitting in a room and playing the music with them made me feel like I was on drugs. I was buzzing, tripping and floating around the studio. I love them, they truly gave of themselves. I bow all the way down.
