The Swedish death metal powerhouse Firespawn, which is composed of former members of some of the fiercest bands in the nation, has formally declared their comeback. They have chosen Jörgen Sandström (formerly of Grave, Entombed, Torture Division) to take on vocal responsibilities in the wake of L-G Petrov’s tragic passing in 2021.

This is more than a reunion, founding guitarist Victor Brandt (ex-Entombed, ex-Aeon) made it clear in the following statement:

“We’re back! This band has always been about a deep connection — between us, the music, and the scene that’s supported us from day one. We’re doing this with love and respect for LG, and his spirit is still very much present in everything we do.”

Additionally, Brandt stressed that adding Sandström was a natural continuation of the band’s history rather than a financial move.

“Having Jörgen joining us feels like the natural next step. He brings both the fire and the spirit we need. We’ve missed this band and we’ve missed all of you. Death metal is in our blood. Let’s do this!”

Sandström has stated that his purpose is to pay tribute to Petrov and maintain the chaos, not to take his place.

“I believe that LG would have wanted Firespawn to keep going. He loved the band and he loved death metal. I’m not here as a replacement for our late friend, but to honor the legacy of our brother — have fun, play death metal, drink beer and headbang!”
