Faun share hypnotic new single ‘Nimue’ ft. Chelsea Wolfe

Author Benedetta Baldin - 8.8.2025

Pagan folk band Faun have released a brand new single and music video for ‘Nimue‘, a poetic and mesmerising track inspired by the old Arthurian legend of ‘The Lady of The Lake’. The track is taken from the band’s upcomingnew album Hex, set for release on 5th September via Pagan Folk Records. Listen to the single here and watch the music video, which premieres at 6:00pm BST, here.

Nimue is a figure from folklore that’s referred to in a number of different ways. As well as her aforementioned title, she’s sometimes described as a sorceress, a water spirit, even an ancient goddess in possession of the legendary sword Excalibur. Here, though, she is a mortal woman; a huntress that became a student of the great wizard Merlin. Faun felt compelled to write a song about her upon discovering the story and created the track alongside gothic folk artist Chelsea Wolfe, whose dark presence makes the track even more enchanting.

Nimue‘ follows the band’s recent singles ‘Lady Isobel‘, ‘Lament‘, ‘Blot‘, ‘Umay‘ and a cover of Nick Drake‘s ‘Black Eyed Dog‘, all of which will appear on their upcoming full-length release “Hex”. The name is derived from the German word for witch, “hexe”, and thematically explores the stories of witches, female healers and wise women. Far away from the cliché of the evil fairytale witch, the German ensemble wants to highlight the various aspects of female magic in different cultures and the legitimate question why we still fear the evil witches instead of the people who burned them.

Faun know how to create catchy virtuoso songs while displaying virtuoso musicianship and do not shy away from any challenge. In this sense, Faun collaborates with the dark sound cascades of Chelsea Wolfe on ‘Nimue‘. On ‘Vals‘, on the other hand, the tonality and quarter tones of old Swedish folklore are brought back to life with the help of the two Swedish guest musicians Daniel Pettersson and Daniel Fredriksson, while on ‘Umay‘, Faun focus on an old Turkish folk song and masterfully set it to music with the Turkish singer Fatma Turgut.

Under the direction of Oliver Satyr (Magister Artium of Medieval Philology), the listener is taken on an entertaining musical journey into the female magic and pagan myths of our history with the help of carefully researched lyrics.

The new album sees Faun return to their musical roots with mystical, archaic folk and enchanted ballads, and is scheduled for release in September 2025. The album will be available on a number of formats and is available to pre-save and pre-order here.
