Extol have shared the visualizer for “Merciless Hunger.” Watch and listen here.
“Merciless Hunger” has a feel and structure similar to older Extol, tapping into the band’s crude side. The listener is guided through chaotic wilderness of brutal riffing, somber atmosphere, and technical finesse in an intriguing blend of thrash and black metal. The song explores the dark side of conviction when ideology and religious dogma become weapons for control.
“It is a warning against those who seek to usurp the beliefs of others, cloaking their hunger for power in a language of love, truth, and sacred justice,” says Peter Espevoll.
“Merciless Hunger” was recorded at Hawk Studios, Little Cave Studio and Hrada Creative and mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios.
The track appears on the band’s upcoming album “AURA OF DECAY”, scheduled for release on November 6 via Solid State Records.

ABOUT Extol:
Formed in 1993 in Bekkestua, Norway. Extol are an experimental death metal band known for fusing sonic violence with spiritual and philosophical lyrical themes. Drawing inspiration from both technical death metal and, for the genre, more unusual melodic and harmonic composition, the band continues to carve out a unique space in the metal underground.
Extol came into existence in the early 90´s during a period of time when heavy metal was commercially dead. Parallel to the emerging Norwegian underground black metal scene, and in a time when hard music was characterized by nu metal and post grunge, Extol insisted to pursue the dream of bringing death metal back to the alternative musical landscape. Extol knew the genre was in desperate need for change. The oppressive correctness, a lack of melodic freedom and a feeling of stagnation in the rhythmic patterns in metal, provoked Extol‘s first full length album;“Burial” (1998).
With this album the band challenged the genres traditional structures and it bears the stamp of irreverent approach to tonality, harmonies and atmosphere, more common for bands from the 70´s. This was the starting point for Extols creativity and laid the foundation for their coming albums; “Undeceived” (2000), “Synergy” (2003) and the Norwegian Grammy nominated “The Blueprint Dives” (2005), supported by extensive world wide touring with bands such as Mastodon and Opeth.
