There is a band that is making waves both metaphorically and literally in the metal world, and that’s Lorna Shore, from across the pond. The deathcore gentlemen are about to release “I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me” on September 12th, so I guess it’s fair to give you a bit of an early review of what’s coming.
To start, I have to say that their brand of metal is alive now more than ever: it’s a fair continuation and a step forward from “Pain Remains”, but very much improved. I started as a symphonic lover, and their orchestral interludes are simply magnificent to me, well positioned and executed. Especially in tracks like “Death Can Take Me” or their latest single “Prison of Flesh“, you can definitely hear they put a huge effort in this.
Speaking of singles, I think that their choice was also spot on, but the remaining tracks are even better. Lorna Shore didn’t hold back, and went all in about every aspect of this release. Will Ramos continue to impress with his voice, Adam De Micco, Michael Yager and Austin Archey provide the propulsive terror that ensures our feet never touch the ground. And how can we stay on the ground, when each and every song demand crowdsurfing, moshing and circle pits?
While my favorite track is most definitely “Oblivion” (any Interstellar fans out there?), I have to admit that the band’s best one is to find in “Glenwood” and in the closing suite “Forevermore“. That’s a masterpiece from start to finish. Andrew O’Connor really outdid himself there, adding a layer of depth that is magical.
“I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me” is hardly ordinary music by anyone’s standards – anyone, really. It’s a symphonic assault that demands complete attention; the positive note is that you’ll be rewarded. Each careful listening comes with new discoveries: about yourself, about metal, about life.
