Dyecrest unveils “Defying Gravity”: first insight into the band’s upcoming album

Melodic metal act Dyecrest reveals the first official details of “Defying Gravity”, their upcoming new album, set to be released on April 24th, 2026, via Art Gates Records.

“Defying Gravity” will be Dyecrest’s fifth full-length album and marks the band’s most cohesive work to date. A record that reflects years of evolution, refinement and a clear artistic vision, bringing together all the elements that define the band into a focused and mature statement.

The album artwork, created by Sami Romppainen, visually reinforces this idea. As the band explains:
“Defying, grounding and balancing ourselves within the shape of the world as it is today. The world contains many things that simply are. Is everything really as we have always imagined? Not everything has an explanation.”
A powerful visual statement that mirrors the album’s underlying themes and emotional depth.
 

Sonically, “Defying Gravity” represents a defining moment for Dyecrest. The band describes the new sound as:
“This sounds as we had imagined plus much more! This is the sound that we built together. Versatile and atmospheric. Something old, something new. A subtle fusion of heaviness, rocking energy and catchy melodies. This is the sound of the journey to become the band we are today.”
An album shaped by contrast and cohesion, where weight and melody coexist naturally, reflecting the band’s growth and identity.
 

“Defying Gravity” was produced by Dyecrest together with Miitri Aaltonen, capturing a fully collaborative vision. Drums were recorded at Astia Studio, while vocals, guitars and bass were tracked at Matalapaine Studios. Keyboards, additional vocals and additional guitars were recorded in various locations. The album was mixed at Matalapaine Studios by Miitri Aaltonen, and mastered at Finnvox Studios by Mika Jussila.
