Druid return with their latest single “dead_SPACE”

This dark and heavy track is inspired by a deeply personal experience. After vocalist Chris Mercuri’s mum had a near-death experience, she described being pulled into a black, void-like space as her heart stopped — peaceful yet terrifying, as though she wasn’t meant to be there. As she was revived, she felt a tug around her waist pulling her back into her body. Drawing from what she recalled, Chris wrote the lyrics to “dead_SPACE“, shaping the song to reflect that suspended, in-between realm and wanting to take listeners into that same space.

The result is an intoxicating blend of obscure ambience, dark textures and crushing weight. With hints of nu metal woven through their own distinct vein, the band take familiar influences and push them somewhere immersive, unsettling and unmistakably their own.

The music video grew directly from the lyrics and overall vibe of the track — capturing the feeling of being trapped in a void with no escape or hope. Directed by Markus Sharpe, the video features actress Jacinta Padanyi portraying someone who collapses into this space, confused and afraid.

“dead_SPACE” is also Druids’ first release featuring new vocalist Tim Lucas. Formerly the band’s bassist, Tim has appeared on previous Druids tracks with backing vocals. Now stepping into the lead role, he takes centre stage — bringing powerful, unforgettable screams to the forefront, including a solo verse that leaves a lasting impact.

“dead_SPACE” will take you out of your comfort zone and offer a glimpse into the afterlife. It captures loneliness and entrapment with rhythm and bounce, shoves it in your face, and forces you to confront an unbearable reality.
