This comeback came pretty much out of nowhere: Bauhaus, one of the pioneers of gothic rock, are back with a new single, entitled “Drink The New Wine“. You can listen to the song below:
“Drink The New Wine” marks their first new single since Bauhaus released their 5th studio album “Go Away White” in 2008, so 14 years ago. Back then, “Go Away White” was said to be the band’s final record and the end of the band altogether, though the same was said when the previous album “Burning From The Inside” was released in 1983.
Bauhaus comment on the process of creating their latest song as follows:
“Recorded during lockdown with the four members sharing audio files, the band used the Surrealist’s ‘Exquisite Corpse’ device: each artist adds to the piece without hearing what the others have done. Kevin provided a prerecorded beat, and the four musicians each had one minute/eight tracks at their disposal plus a shared sixty seconds/four tracks for a composite at the end. None of them heard what the others had recorded until the tracks were put together. ‘Drink the New Wine’ refers to the very first ‘Exquisite Corpse’ drawing rendered by André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Jacques Prévert and Yves Tanguy which included the sentence ‘The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine.'”– Bauhaus
