Discover the identity of Nine Inch Nails’ new bass player

Author Benedetta Baldin - 6.2.2026

Last night, February 5th, industrial metal icons Nine Inch Nails began the most recent North American leg of their “Peel It Back” tour at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, as per theprp. The longstanding bassist Alessandro Cortini was not present when they returned to the stage. Instead, Stu Brooks, a co-founder of the dub/metal crossover group Dub Trio, showed up. In the past, Brooks has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Lady Gaga, 50 Cent, and Mike Patton. Today, February 6th, Nine Inch Nails posted the video below on social media to confirm his joining the group.

The addition of Brooks to the group comes after drummer Josh Freese, who took Ilan Rubin’s position last year, returned. Ironically, Rubin left Nine Inch Nails to play Freese’s spot in Foo Fighters. This adds another twist to the adage “musical chairs,” as Rubin was the one who first took Freese’s place in Nine Inch Nails in 2008.
