At yesterday’s “GRAMMY Awards” presentation at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, a musical homage to the late heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne was performed, as per theprp. His spouse Sharon Osbourne and his kids Jack and Kelly were brought to tears by the audience’s tribute to the deceased Prince of Darkness. The homage was held during the yearly in memoriam segment, which honors performers and industry personnel who died the previous year. Taking to the stage in his honor tonight were a number of partners who worked with the pioneering musician on his final two albums. The homage was led by rapper, musician, and actor Post Malone, who had previously collaborated with Osbourne on two tracks.

Also contributing were Guns N’ Roses‘ guitarist Slash and bassist/vocalist Duff McKagan, as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Producer/musician Andrew Watt, who spearheaded Osbourne‘s final two albums, was also part of this collective. They came together to perform the classic Black Sabbath song “War Pigs.

Also, Spiritbox played the premiere awards show presentation. The band performed their song “Soft Spine” and received their third nomination this year. Spiritbox‘s invitation to perform onstage at this year’s GRAMMYS has a nice twist, though, as the group’s vocalist Courtney LaPlante was mistaken for Poppy during a red carpet interview at the annual awards show last year. Turnstile won the “Best Metal Performance” award for their song “Birds,” despite that single competing against Ghost, Sleep Token, and Dream Theater.

In addition to winning the prize for their song “Birds,” Turnstile also won Best Rock Album for “NEVER ENOUGH.” YUNGBLUD received his first-ever Grammy prize for Best Rock Performance for his live performance of Black Sabbath‘s “Changes.” He was accompanied by Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, Frank Bello of Anthrax, Adam Wakeman, and II of Sleep Token for that performance at the “Back To The Beginning” event in July of last year. Sharon Osbourne, widow of Ozzy, accompanied that ensemble onstage to accept the trophy. Members of the legendary industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails were not there to accept the “Best Rock Song” award for their “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” soundtrack song from “Tron: Ares.”

The Cure also won their first Grammy Awards after more than 50 years from the formation of the band.
