Norwegian symphonic black metal titans Dimmu Borgir are finally set to return with their long-awaited new album “Grand Serpent Rising”, due out on May 22 via Nuclear Blast. Eight years have passed since “Eonian”, and as expected, the band has taken their time refining every detail rather than rushing the process. Chaoszine recently caught up with guitarist Sven “Silenoz” Kopperud via Zoom to discuss the creation of the upcoming record, its themes, and the band’s uncompromising artistic philosophy.
Built from ideas developed over several years, “Grand Serpent Rising” represents a distilled and focused statement from the band, where every element has been carefully considered and nothing feels excessive. In the interview, Silenoz dives into the album’s core themes of transformation, spiritual awakening, and self-realization, while also shedding light on how the band has, in many ways, returned to a more direct and organic creative approach reminiscent of their early days.
