Dimmu Borgir release second single “Ascent” from upcoming album

Norwegian symphonic black metal veterans Dimmu Borgir have dropped “Ascent”, the second single from their upcoming tenth studio album “Grand Serpent Rising”. The track landed on streaming platforms at midnight, with an official music video premiering later.

“Grand Serpent Rising” arrives May 22, 2026, via Nuclear Blast Records. It marks the band’s first full-length since 2018’s “Eonian”, ending an eight-year wait between albums. The lead single “Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel” dropped alongside the album announcement in late March.

Founding members Shagrath and Silenoz handled all music and arrangements on the record, with Silenoz writing every lyric. Furthermore, the album was tracked in Gothenburg at Studio Fredman with producer Fredrik Nordström, marking his fourth collaboration with the group after “Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia”, “Death Cult Armageddon”, and “In Sorte Diaboli”.

The lineup also features new guitarist Kjell Åge “Damage” Karlsen, who joined in 2025 after Galder departed the previous year. Meanwhile, “Ascent” appears as track two on a thirteen-song tracklist.

Dimmu Borgir additionally hit the road this October on the “In League With Satan” co-headline tour alongside Behemoth, with Dark Funeral as special guests across Europe and the UK.
