Devin Townsend recently announced the release of his new studio album ‘PowerNerd’, due on 25 October 2024.
Devin Townsend‘s career is characterised by many distinct phases. He has been the leader of Strapping Young Lad, the backbone of the Devin Townsend Project and the co-leader of the country duo Casualties of Cool, all while maintaining his prolific and highly regarded solo project. Now, the new era of the multifaceted Canadian artist has a new beginning, with ‘PowerNerd’.

The new single ‘Gratitude’ is now available, accompanied by an official video clip featuring Devin exploring the magnificent Canadian forests:

‘Gratitude’ is a simple song, along the lines of ‘Life’ or ‘Stagnant’ (by Ocean Machine and Terria respectively), which is an easy way to continue the theme of PowerNerd. During the making of this album, there were many obstacles we had to face and the tendency to look at one’s lot in life from the point of view of being a ‘victim’ seems to be an easy hole to fall into. I wrote this song during a very difficult time but the idea of gratitude is not meant to be ironic in any way. I’m grateful for the lessons, I’m grateful for the swings of life, that’s what I’m here for. Maintaining balance in difficult times is a job in and of itself and in a sea of nihilistic thoughts having one’s own creative output as a tangible expression of gratitude is in many ways the focus for me right now. In any case: I feel like I’m an idiot and life is so incredible and absurd that I feel the need to say ‘thank you’ for it all. If the quality of the people around me and this work is any indication, we are in the right direction. Thank you =)’
