Devin Townsend‘s new song, “Hotter,” has been made available to the public, as per theprp. The song may be found on the Patreon-only new album “Seeker – Ban Khao Tao” by Canadian prog metaller. While traveling “across the other side of the world,” as he described it, he documented that ambient outing. After taking a hiatus from touring in April 2025, Townsend‘s main musical platform has been his Patreon.
Never been in a place that was in such unique harmony with itself. I could live there. Lots of wild dogs and unique societal pathways that need respecting, but I loved the place and I loved the people.
Singer, guitarist, composer, and record producer Devin Townsend hails from Canada. From 1994 to 2007, he served as the main songwriter, singer, and guitarist for the extreme metal group Strapping Young Lad. In addition, he has a long solo career; as of 2024, all of his endeavors had produced 29 albums.
Townsend was found by a record label in 1993 after playing in several heavy metal bands throughout his high school years. The firm wanted Townsend to sing lead vocals on Steve Vai‘s album “Sex & Religion”. His 1995 solo album “Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing”, which he released under the pen name Strapping Young Lad, was a way for him to express his frustration at what he discovered in the music industry after recording and touring with Vai. He quickly put together a band of the same name, and in 1997 they produced the highly regarded album “City”. In addition to solo releases under his own independent label, HevyDevy Records, he has now put out three additional studio albums with Strapping Young Lad.
Townsend’s solo albums include a blend of hard rock, progressive metal, ambient, and new-age, with a varied array of backing musicians. He started the Devin Townsend Band in 2002, and they recorded and performed for two of his solo albums. He broke up Strapping Young Lad and the Devin Townsend Band in 2007 so he could spend more time with his family instead of touring. He resumed recording after a two-year break, and shortly after, he declared the creation of the Devin Townsend Project. The band’s first four albums, each written in a different genre, were released between 2009 and 2011. Up until January 2018, Townsend kept recording and performing under the new name.
