Deftones have officially announced their first studio album in nearly five years. Titled “Private Music”, the record is set for release on August 22nd via Reprise/Warner Records and is already making waves with the unveiling of its lead single, “My Mind Is a Mountain”.
The band had been teasing new material in recent weeks, including a cryptic countdown and a debut performance of the new single at their massive show at London’s Crystal Palace Park. Now, the veil is lifted: “Private Music” was produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who previously worked with the band on fan-favorites “Diamond Eyes” and “Koi No Yokan”. Recording took place across Malibu, Joshua Tree, and Nashville — a journey that clearly fed into the band’s creative process.
“My Mind Is a Mountain” leans into expansive, dreamlike atmospheres, with a hypnotic pulse and the unmistakable emotional weight of Deftones. The song marks a bold step forward while still carrying the DNA that’s made the band a genre-defying force since the ’90s.
Last spring, frontman Chino Moreno hinted in interviews that the band had tapped into a renewed energy during the writing sessions, describing the process as creatively invigorating. He noted how natural collaboration within the group led to some of their most inspired material in years.
