Defiled drop video for new single “Altered State”

Japanese death metal veterans Defiled have released a music video for “Altered State”, the title track and third advanced single from their upcoming ninth album. The track follows previous singles “Portal” and “Obsession”.

The Tokyo band have shared stages with Morbid Angel, Mayhem and Cannibal Corpse since the early ’90s, though they’ve consistently followed their own path through the genre. According to guitarist and founding member Yusuke Sumita, the new single highlights what the band considers their core identity. He notes that the tempo shifts pull more from progressive and fusion approaches than traditional death metal.

Sumita also calls “Altered State” one of the most unconventional entries in the band’s catalog. Additionally, he points to concepts that he believes both Defiled and death metal as a whole have overlooked. Seaside99works directed the video.

“Altered State” arrives June 12, 2026 through Season of Mist. Furthermore, fans can stream the full record early during a Bandcamp listening party on Thursday, May 28 at 12:00 PM CEST. Pre-orders cover CD digipack and two 12″ vinyl gatefold editions, including black and transparent yellowish-green variants.

Defiled also confirmed an extensive Japanese tour around the release, plus two September dates supporting Brujeria. Meanwhile, the band’s June 9 show in Tokyo features Incantation.
